Manchester United are preparing for another crucial Champions League encounter, with Michael Carrick already facing several selection problems ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Atletico Madrid.
The Red Devils desperately need a response after another disappointing performance saw them draw against ten-man Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford.
Despite enjoying a numerical advantage, United struggled to impose themselves, with their attacking play once again lacking creativity and conviction.
Many supporters felt Carrick’s side were fortunate to escape with a point, raising further questions about their performances this season.
However, the manager’s options remain limited by injuries.
Benjamin Sesko continues recovering from a shin problem, while Patrick Dorgu faces several weeks out with a hamstring injury.
Manuel Ugarte remains sidelined following cruciate ligament surgery, with Tom Heaton and Matthijs de Ligt also among the expected absentees.
United will therefore travel to Spain knowing another disappointing result could increase the pressure surrounding Carrick.
Meanwhile, another Manchester United midfielder has received a disciplinary setback after being dismissed during a competitive fixture.
Manchester United youngster Jacob Devaney is set to serve a suspension following his red card during Hibernian’s 1-0 defeat against Dundee United on Saturday.
According to Hibernian’s official match report, the 19-year-old was dismissed shortly after entering the pitch as an 80th-minute substitute.
Devaney initially received a yellow card for bringing down Neil Farrugia, with the referee awarding Dundee United a penalty.
However, following a VAR review, referee Don Robertson upgraded the booking to a straight red card and changed the penalty to a free kick.
The dismissal means Devaney faces a suspension, although Hibernian have not confirmed its length.
The midfielder joined Hibernian on a season-long loan in August, with an option to make the transfer permanent.
Devaney previously impressed during a loan spell at St Mirren and captained United’s Under-21 side.
He also scored during Manchester United’s 5-0 pre-season victory over Rosenborg in July.
His latest setback interrupts an important campaign as he attempts to establish himself in senior football.
