Manchester United’s midfield has become the main focus of the club’s summer transfer window.
Michael Carrick has already added Andrey Santos from Chelsea and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa.
United are still expected to pursue a third midfielder, with Roma star Manu Kone among the names linked with a move to Old Trafford.
At the same time, the club are willing to reshape their current options.
Manuel Ugarte has struggled to meet expectations since joining from Paris Saint-Germain in August 2024.
The Uruguay international cost an initial £42.3 million but started only 8 Premier League matches last season.
United are now believed to be prepared to accept a loss on the midfielder if a suitable offer arrives.
However, another midfielder on the club’s books appears to have quietly returned to a familiar team without any official announcement confirming a new agreement.
Sekou Kone appears to have rejoined Lausanne-Sport ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The Mali youth international shared several images on Instagram showing him back in action for the Swiss club during pre-season.
United officially announced in January that Kone had joined Lausanne on loan until the end of the season, subject to international clearance.
The wording indicated the temporary move would expire after the conclusion of the 2025/26 campaign.
However, the 20-year-old is now involved in Lausanne’s preparations for the new season despite neither club publicly confirming another loan or permanent transfer.
Kone joined United from Guidars FC in Mali during the summer of 2024 for a reported fee of around £1 million.
The defensive midfielder initially entered the academy setup as United helped him adjust to English football.
His first Lausanne spell gave him the opportunity to gain senior experience in the Swiss Super League and potentially feature in European competition.
For now, his Instagram post suggests he will continue with Lausanne, although Manchester United have yet to explain the exact terms of his return.
