With Sir Jim Ratcliffe becoming co-owner and former boss Ruben Amorim coming and going as manager, it’s been all change at Manchester United over the last few years or so.

A gargantuan institution, the club has endured plenty of success since its inception in 1878 when they were called Newton Heath.

In fact, no other team in the Premier League have won more titles (13) than Manchester United.

All manner of legends, from managers such as Sir Matt Busby and Sir Alex Ferguson to players such as George Best and Wayne Rooney, have been associated with the Red Devils.

At such a big football club, change is inevitable and that notions rings true for Carrington, the club’s esteemed academy set-up which has churned out some of the best talent the country has ever seen.

From the likes of Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs to Kobbie Mainoo and the like, the academy has always been integral to the success of United.

In August 2025, Stephen Torpey was appointed by the club as the new Academy Director.

Joining from Brentford to replace Nick Cox, Torpey’s role is to lead all aspect of the club’s youth development system – and he will soon be joined by a new professional.

That’s because the behind-the-scenes changes at the academy are continuing. Posted on LinkedIn, the club have advertised the role of Head of Academy Football Development and Methodology.

Based at United’s Carrington Training Complex, the club are looking for an individual who is ready to take their talent production to new heights.

“At Manchester United, we believe that excellence on the pitch starts with excellence off the pitch. Our team thrives in a high-performance environment, united by a shared passion for success,” the job description states.

“We aim to elevate the standard of performance through collaboration and continuous growth, creating a space where everyone can contribute their best to our common goals.

“We work together at our iconic Manchester United offices, enabling connection and innovation as we look ahead to what we can achieve as a global football club. We are excited to bring in passionate people who share our vision and drive for success.”

United clearly want to remain the best in class in terms of what their academy set-up can provide for young, budding footballers as they look to transition from youth football to locking horns with some of the Premier League’s best players.

Adding a Head of Academy Football Development and Methodology to their current staff will benefit the likes of JJ Gabriel, who was recently shown a red card in the Under-18s 4-3 win over West Bromwich Albion.
