Manchester United continue to shape their academy and development structure ahead of the new season, with several young players now receiving clarity over their futures at the club.
The club’s retained list process has brought a mix of decisions across the academy setup, with some players set to move on while others are being tied down as part of long-term planning at Carrington.
Attention has also been on players who have been involved around the senior environment, particularly within the goalkeeping and Under-21 setups, as United refine their pathway between youth and first-team football.
Among those involved in that group, a number of young prospects have been rewarded for their development with fresh contract offers, as announced by United on their website.
Dermot Mee is one of those to be offered new terms, despite earlier reports suggesting he could be released.
Dermot Mee has been part of Manchester United’s wider goalkeeping department in recent seasons and has regularly featured in first-team training sessions, often travelling with the squad to support matchday preparation and warm-ups.
However, his route into senior competitive action has been limited, with the Northern Irishman largely operating as a training goalkeeper in recent years, particularly amid changes in the coaching structure following the departure of goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital earlier this year.
Mee originally joined Manchester United from Walsall in 2019 and has progressed through the academy system into the Under-21 squad.
Alongside him, Albert Mills and Dante Plunkett have also been offered new contracts as the club looks to retain promising talent within its academy ranks.
Mills has been at United since the age of eight after relocating to the north-west with his family, later signing scholarship terms with the Under-18s in July 2024 as part of his steady progression through the system.
Plunkett, meanwhile, only formally joined Manchester United’s academy setup in July 2024 but has already made notable strides, with his development attracting international recognition after being called up by Jamaica for the Unity Cup final against Nigeria last month.
With United managing exits and new deals in their academy, these contract offers show the club still wants strong depth and competition in the youth setup.
