Manchester United have been targeting midfielders throughout the summer as Michael Carrick continues reshaping his squad.
Casemiro has left following the expiry of his contract, while Manuel Ugarte’s future remains uncertain after a difficult spell at Old Trafford.
As a result, United have already reached a full agreement with Atalanta for Ederson.
The Red Devils are still expected to sign at least one more midfielder before the window closes.
One player who was heavily on their shortlist was Elliot Anderson.
However, Manchester City eventually won the race, signing the midfielder from Nottingham Forest for a British-record fee.
Now, though, Manchester United have officially tied down another Anderson.
The player in question is Jessica Anderson, who is also a midfielder.
The youngster has signed her first professional contract with Manchester United Women.
Manchester United confirmed the news on their official website.
The 17-year-old has agreed a deal until June 2028, with the option of a further year.
Anderson captained Manchester United’s Under-21 side last season and made her senior debut in the UEFA Women’s Champions League in February.
She followed that up with her first Women’s Super League appearance at Old Trafford a month later.
Speaking after putting pen to paper, Jessica Anderson described signing her first professional contract as a “huge honour” and thanked her family and academy coaches for their support throughout her development.
United’s Director of Women’s Football, Matt Johnson, also praised the youngster.
He highlighted both her determination and the excellent work being done within the club’s academy system.
The deal continues United’s commitment to developing homegrown talent.
Academy defender Scarlett Hill also recently signed her first professional contract until 2028.
Having progressed through the ranks at United, Anderson will now hope to establish herself as a regular member of Marc Skinner’s first-team squad in the coming years.
