Manchester United could see as many as three first-team midfielders depart the club in January.

Kobbie Mainoo’s future has long been the subject of media coverage, with Napoli heavilty linked.

Manuel Ugarte has also been rumoured to attract interest from Turkey and Casemiro has also been linked with a move away.

With Mainoo currently injured alongside club captain Bruno Fernandes, the club have struggled for depth in the position, with 18-year old Jack Fletcher (son of Darren) called up to fill the positional need.

There have been many midfielders linked with moves to United either in the January or summer transfer window as the club lie just three points off fourth place Liverpool.

This includes Adam Wharton, Ruben Neves, Carlos Baleba, Elliot Anderson and Conor Gallagher, who all have Premier League experience.

The Sun have reported that United have plans to send midfielder Toby Collyer back out on loan in January, despite their current midfield selection issues.

Collyer, 21, spent time at West Bromwich Albion earlier this season and made 12 appearances before a calf injury in November saw his loan deal come to a premature end.

A loan move is still a possibility for Collyer in January, provided he makes enough of a return to fitness as he continues his recovery at United’s Carrington based training ground.

Collyer is not completely devoid of first team experience at Man United, making his debut in their battle with Manchester City in the 2024 FA Community Shield.

His Premier League debut came in their 3-0 loss to Liverpool at Old Trafford and his first FA Cup appearance came against Arsenal as they beat the Gunners through the form of a penalty shootout.

Furthermore, he made his first UEFA Europa League appearance in a a 2-1 win against Rangers.

In January 2025, Collyer had arguably his best moment in a United shirt, earning praise from teammates and fans alike after he cleared the ball of the line in a 1-0 win away to Fulham in the Premier League.
