Manchester United are planning a surprise move for Fiorentina star Moise Kean to outsmart the highly inflated summer transfer market. The Red Devils are planning to prioritise the number nine signing to secure their attacking department for the upcoming season.
United have already covered the attacking position behind the number nine by signing Matheus Cunha, while they chase Bryan Mbeumo. However, they remain unsettled in the attack without an established number nine featuring regularly for Ruben Amorim in the front.
Amorim has provided chances to both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee as the leading striker, but they have failed consistently. The two young forwards lack consistency in contributing regular goals and assists, which are essential for a United number nine.
United struggled with productivity up front throughout the underwhelming reign of former manager Erik ten Hag, involving two full seasons. Ten Hag signed both Hojlund and Zirkzee, as Amorim intends to get fresh faces that understand his different tactical demands.
However, Amorim faces financial restrictions while pushing to achieve the daunting task of a complete United squad overhaul this summer. If Mbeumo’s deal happens, then United’s spending would cross £120 million, forcing the club to sell before they buy again.
According to Corriere dello Sport, United want Kean from Fiorentina in a surprise move to negate the currently inflated market. The 25-year-old forward has a release clause of £44 million, which is far cheaper than any other options currently available.
The Italian international made 44 appearances in all competitions for Fiorentina last season, scoring 25 goals and providing three assists. Kean had a stint with Everton in the Premier League at a young age, where he struggled to display his immense potential.
However, the situation is drastically different now with maturity and more composure, the Italian has dominated in the Serie A. The Red Devils could benefit from an experienced forward, considering the long-term projects have so far failed.
