Manchester United are focusing on restructuring their upper-management system and also improving their recruitment team under the hierarchy of Sir Jim Ratcliffe after he became a co-owner at the club. Now it appears that they’ve found a breakthrough in their attempts to rope in Southampton director Jason Wilcox.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Wilcox has decided to resign from his position as Southampton’s director of football to push forward a move to Old Trafford. This comes after it was reported that the Red Devils had made a formal offer to the Championship side, offering to meet his buyout clause to relieve him of his duties at Southampton.
However, Romano states that Southampton refused to accept the fee offered by United and that has caused Wilcox to make a bit of a drastic decision for his future. The journalist adds that the reason why the Englishman is resigning from his role is because he wants to join the project at Old Trafford and venture on a new journey in his career.
It is also stated that Wilcox is going to play a key part in the Red Devils ‘new era’ under Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos.
Wilcox was a pretty experienced footballer in his heydays and was part of Blackburn Rovers’ Premier League winning squad in the 1994-95 season as well. He earned over 350 appearances in his career before moving into a coaching role at Manchester City in 2013, seven years after his retirement from the beautiful game.
Wilcox had worked with Omar Berrada, the ex-Manchester City CEO that the Red Devils poached earlier this season, and has plenty of knowledge about recruiting quality young players. With United also reportedly looking to appoint Dan Ashworth as their new sporting director, it appears that things are changing behind the scenes ahead of what could be an important summer transfer window for the club.
