Manchester United’s recruitment appears far from finished despite already strengthening priority areas ahead of the new campaign.
Michael Carrick has overseen the arrivals of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans to refresh the midfield, while the club have also continued exploring options across Europe as they look to complete one more major addition in the middle of the park before the transfer window closes.
Replacing Casemiro has remained one of United’s biggest priorities ever since the Brazilian left United following the expiry of his contract.
The Red Devils have also been strongly linked with several French midfielders in recent weeks, including Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni and Roma star Manu Kone.
Now another French international has emerged as a serious target.
According to Top Mercato, Manchester United are preparing an opening bid worth around £51 million (€60m) for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Warren Zaire-Emery as Carrick continues searching for a third central midfielder.
United reportedly view the 20-year-old as the final piece of their midfield rebuild following the signings of Santos and Tielemans, with club officials believing another dominant presence is still required in the centre of the pitch.
Warren Zaire-Emery has established himself as one of Europe’s brightest young midfielders and offers versatility that appeals to Old Trafford decision-makers, with the Frenchman capable of playing both in central midfield and at right-back when required.
Although his World Cup campaign ended in frustration after making only two appearances for France, his club form has remained impressive.
The Paris Saint-Germain academy graduate enjoyed an excellent season in France, starting 47 of his 54 appearances across all competitions as he rediscovered the consistency that made him one of the club’s standout young talents.
However, convincing PSG to sell could prove extremely difficult.
The Ligue 1 champions have the midfielder tied down until June 2029, with the option of extending his stay for another year, and reportedly value him at around £68 million.
That figure is significantly higher than United’s proposed opening offer, meaning negotiations could become complicated if the Premier League side decide to test PSG’s resolve.
For now, Carrick’s midfield shortlist continues to evolve, but Warren Zaire-Emery has become the latest high-profile name linked with a move to Old Trafford as United continue searching for one final addition in the middle of the park.
