Manchester United’s midfield rebuild continues to gather pace as the club step up their search for new additions ahead of the upcoming season.

With Casemiro now departed and uncertainty still surrounding Manuel Ugarte’s long-term future, United are actively targeting reinforcements in the middle of the pitch.

Several names remain under consideration as the club look to add both quality and depth to Michael Carrick’s squad.

A number of high-profile midfielders across Europe have been monitored, with United working through a wide shortlist as they aim to reshape the engine room of the team.

Talks and scouting have already intensified, with internal discussions focusing on the next key signing to follow their agreed deal for Atalanta’s Ederson.

United are also competing with several Premier League and European rivals for similar profiles, but one name is now emerging as a serious focus in their recruitment drive.

Manchester United set to submit offer for Mamadou Sangare

RC Lens midfielder Mamadou Sangare has attracted strong interest from Old Trafford, with Manchester United preparing an opening offer for the 23-year-old, according to Sebastien Denis on X.

The Malian international has impressed with his dynamism and control in midfield, and despite Lens enjoying a successful season that included a strong Ligue 1 finish and a historic Coupe de France triumph, they are now bracing themselves for interest in key players during the transfer window.

Mamadou Sangare is currently valued at around £34 million (€40 million), although that figure is expected to rise due to growing competition from clubs across Europe.

Around a dozen sides are believed to be tracking his situation, but United are currently viewed as the most concrete suitor.

However, United are not relying on a single target.

The club are continuing to explore options including Sandro Tonali, Carlos Baleba, Alex Scott and Mateus Fernandes as part of a broader strategy to strengthen midfield depth.

There is also competition in the race for Elliot Anderson, although at this stage the Nottingham Forest midfielder is believed to be leaning towards a potential move to Manchester City instead.
