The Uruguayan centre-back was also linked with a move to Juventus during the winter transfer window but ultimately decided to renew his contract with Barcelona. Despite that, Manchester United now believe that Ronald Araujo could be the defensive leader they desperately need to shore up their backline. According to reports, the Red Devils are prepared to spend €80 million to secure his services this summer.

Araujo’s defensive numbers this season underscore his capabilities. In 10 La Liga appearances during the 2024/2025 campaign, he has conceded just five goals and kept four clean sheets, averaging a goal conceded every 129 minutes. Defensively, he’s posted solid figures, recording 1.68 tackles and 0.98 interceptions per 90 minutes. Additionally, Araujo is clearing his lines effectively, averaging 2.24 clearances per game.

Despite his dip in form and criticism over costly mistakes, Araujo’s physical presence, aerial prowess, and ability to organise the backline could make him a valuable addition to United’s defence. With Lindelof and Evans set to depart and De Ligt and Martinez struggling with injuries, Araujo’s leadership qualities could be exactly what United need to stabilise their defence next season.
