Manchester United’s search for the next generation of elite talent is showing no signs of slowing down as the club continue planning for the future alongside strengthening Michael Carrick’s first-team squad.
The Red Devils have already been linked with several exciting young prospects over the past year, with the recruitment team placing a greater emphasis on identifying players before they become household names.
While midfield remains one of United’s biggest priorities following Casemiro’s departure, the club are also keeping a close eye on emerging talents capable of becoming long-term stars at Old Trafford.
One player who has once again moved onto United’s radar is teenage sensation Gilberto Mora after another remarkable rise for both club and country.
According to De Telegraaf, Manchester United remain among several European heavyweights monitoring the Mexican prodigy, with Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool also all credited with strong interest.
However, the highly-rated midfielder is understood to prefer remaining in Mexico until he turns 18 in October 2027 before making the move to European football.
United’s admiration for Gilberto Mora is nothing new either.
Reports from last October claimed the Red Devils were already following the midfielder closely alongside Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid as his reputation continued to grow.
Earlier this month, Mexican club Club Tijuana confirmed that Gilberto Mora had signed a new three-year contract while also handing him the iconic No. 10 shirt, highlighting just how highly he is regarded by the club.
The new agreement has not completely shut the door on a future transfer, though, with reports suggesting the contract contains a clearly structured exit mechanism that could make a move easier when the time is right.
The 17-year-old continues to make history almost every time he steps onto the pitch.
Mora is the youngest player at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, further increasing attention around one of Mexico’s brightest prospects.
He also etched his name into World Cup history during Mexico’s Round of 32 victory over Ecuador.
Starting the knockout fixture at just 17 years and 259 days old, Mora became one of the youngest players ever to start a World Cup knockout match, with only Brazilian legend Pele having achieved the feat at a younger age when he started against Wales in 1958.
The youngster justified his manager’s faith with another mature display beyond his years.
Mora played a major role in several dangerous attacking moves and supplied the assist for Raul Gimenez’s opening goal before receiving a standing ovation inside the iconic Azteca Stadium after being substituted shortly after the 70-minute mark.
Those performances have only strengthened the belief among Europe’s biggest clubs that the Mexican international possesses the quality to succeed at the highest level.
