Manchester United reportedly make Erling Haaland priority target next season

Manchester United have reportedly made Borussia Dortmund's Erling Haaland their top transfer target next summer despite signing Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus, according to ESPN's Mark Ogden.

Haaland reportedly has a €75 million release clause in his Dortmund contract at the end of this season. Manchester City, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Paris-Saint Germain are also interested in the Norwegian striker.

United expects "stiff competition" for Haaland next summer, according to ESPN. City failed in its pursuit of Harry Kane, PSG almost certainly will lose top striker Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid and Bayern Munich regard Haaland as a long-term replacement for club legend Robert Lewandowski.

Haaland is coming off a terrific season for Dortmund in which he 37 goals and 10 assists across 36 appearances in the Bundesliga and UEFA Champions League. He's already off to another tremendous start this season, notching three goals and two assists in the first three Bundesliga matches of the year.

The 21-year-old, who is under contract through June 2024, told reporters in May he's "respectful" toward his deal and has no plans to force a move out of Westfalenstadion. However, that doesn't mean Dortmund won't agree to a transfer next summer.

Adding Haaland would be pivotal for Manchester United as the club looks to reestablish itself as one of the top in Europe. The Red Devils haven't won the Premier League since 2012-13 and the Champions League since 2007-08.

Haaland has the potential to be a building block for United, who have made it clear they're willing to do whatever it takes to be successful again.
