Harry Maguire has confirmed he is fit and will soon join Manchester United’s pre-season tour of the United States, putting to rest concerns over a potential injury setback after missing Tuesday’s team flight to Chicago.
The 32-year-old centre-back was notably absent from the 32-man squad that travelled to the USA, prompting speculation over his condition. Maguire had come off the bench at half-time in United’s goalless draw with Leeds United in Stockholm on Saturday but was later substituted himself, raising fears of a knock.
However, Maguire has taken to social media to clarify that he is not injured, writing on social media (h/t The Mirror):
“All is fine now. I will be travelling tomorrow (Wednesday) to meet up with the squad. Thanks for your concern.”
This update ensures the experienced defender will link up with the squad in time for the Red Devils’ upcoming fixtures in the Premier League Summer Series, which will see United face West Ham United, Bournemouth, and Everton in the United States.
From a fan’s point of view, it’s reassuring to see Harry Maguire confirm his fitness amid heavy speculation around his role and future. As Ruben Amorim continues to shape his squad for the season ahead, having experienced players available is essential, especially with key battles on the pitch and in the dressing room looming.
While Maguire’s absence was briefly a concern, the tour squad includes several major names, most notably new signing Bryan Mbeumo, who completed his £71 million move from Brentford on Monday. Mbeumo is expected to make his unofficial debut on tour and provide a spark in United’s new-look frontline.
Andre Onana, who picked up a hamstring injury early in pre-season, also made the trip and is targeting a return in United’s third friendly against Everton. The club is managing his recovery carefully with a view to having him ready for the start of the Premier League campaign.
Manchester United’s first fixture on the American leg of pre-season will be against West Ham at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, also the venue for the 2026 World Cup Final. Kick-off is set for midnight UK time on Saturday.
The second match sees United face Bournemouth in Chicago on Thursday, July 31 at 2:30am BST, before wrapping up the tour with a clash against Everton, where Onana may make his return. A winning run will put us in good stead heaing into the 2025/26 Premier League season.
