Harry Maguire is coming to the end of his contract at Manchester United, with the centre-back set to leave Old Trafford at the end of the season.
Whilst United have the option to extend by 12 months, The Red Devils haven’t yet begun discussions to do so.
With INEOS trying to drive down the wage contributions at Old Trafford, it’s expected that Maguire’s future at United would depend on him taking a wage cut.
However, in readiness of losing the veteran defender, CaughtOffside has reported that United have lined up four targets, with one long-term interest leading the pack.
In summer 2024, Manchester United had a firm focus on Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite, reigniting interest with each transfer window that passes.
Now, the 23-year-old is once again being considered by Ruben Amorim as a long-term replacement for Maguire.
However alongside Branthwaite is Marc Guehi of Crystal Palace.
Guehi has been highly sought after after his success at Selhurst Park, with a move to Liverpool collapsing on the brink of deadline day this summer.
Both defenders would fit with Amroim’s intentions of having an instant impact while also having years ahead of them with youth on their side.
However, Ruben Amorim has also been clear that the club can’t begin panic-buying to plug gaps in their system.
Whilst his concerns were primarily directed towards the injury issues in the midfield at Old Trafford, with Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes out of action, the concerns still apply.
