Manchester United have got a lot to be excited about over the coming years.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has made it clear that youth development will sit at the hart of the club’s long-term vision, and the academy pipeline continues to produce exciting prospects.

Over the past couple of years, supporters have seen talents like Chido Obi and Ayden Heaven arrive from rival clubs, while homegrown names like Shea Lacey continue to push through the ranks.

Now, another youngster is beginning to make serious noise.

As we previously reported, Ben Lyne was officially called up to represent the Republic of Ireland Under-15s for their upcoming fixtures against the Netherlands.

The forward posted on his Instagram story to reveal that he was handed the number 10 shirt for his debut – and he certainly lived up to it.

Ireland fell to a 4-2 defeat against the Dutch, but Lyne was the standout performer, scoring both goals on his international debut.

To step onto the international stage and deliver a brace immediately is no small feat, particularly against traditionally strong opposition like the Netherlands.

The display further underlined why he is regarded as one of the more exciting attacking prospects coming through at Carrington.

Lyne has already impressed domestically, most notably with a standout performance at the Snow Bowl tournament recently, where he caught the eye with his movement, composure and finishing ability.

The Republic of Ireland are set to face the Netherlands twice more in the coming days, giving the young United forward another opportunity to build momentum and further enhance his growing reputation.

International youth football can often serve as a launchpad for bigger things.

For Lyne, this could be the first of many statements on a bigger stage.

Manchester United fans will be watching closely.
