Manuel Ugarte’s time with Manchester United has been far from successful as the former PSG midfielder is struggling for game time.
Having arrived from the French capital in summer 2024 for £50 million, the Uruguay international failed to establish himself under Erik ten Hag.
Following Erik ten Hag’s departure, he also failed to capitalise on the existing relationship with Ruben Amorim, having worked together at Sporting CP.
However, Amorim expressed his disappointment with the reunion, commenting that he wasn’t the same midfielder as the one who brought him success in Lisbon.
Since Ruben Amorim’s departure, caretaker manager Michael Carrick has also decided against using the 24-year-old, using Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo as his key midfield partnership.
As such, Manuel Ugarte has been sitting on the bench, only making six appearances since Carrick took charge in January, totalling 70 minutes.
With the lack of game time, his departure in the summer is looking increasingly likely, with Juventus currently eyeing up the forgotten midfielder as United look to offload him.
Ugarte is one of five Erik ten Hag signings set to be sold this summer along with Andre Onana, Rasmus Hojlund, Mason Mount and Joshua Zirkzee.
However, Uruguayan outlet El Pais has reported that United have previously rejected offers for him, with teams in the Premier League having come knocking.
The report explains that both Aston Villa and Newcastle United have approached The Red Devils for Ugarte, with both clubs looking for a loan move.
While it isn’t specified which window the clubs approached United, it does explain that Atletico Madrid have also pursued the former PSG star.
For now, the 24-year-old is still a key member of the Uruguay national side, having just drew to England 1-1 at Wembley and now are preparing to face Algeria.
