Manuel Ugarte has reportedly voiced concerns over his manager’s methods in a development which could further fuel speculation surrounding his future.
The midfielder has regularly been linked with a move away from Manchester United in recent weeks.
Recent reports have suggested that United would be willing to accept making a loss on Ugarte should a suitable offer arrive during the summer transfer window.
That has naturally led to increased scrutiny over the 25-year-old’s situation.
However, the latest reports concern events away from Old Trafford.
According to Spanish outlet COPE, Ugarte was one of several senior players who requested a private meeting with Marcelo Bielsa to express concerns over his methods.
The report claims that Manuel Ugarte, alongside Federico Valverde, Rodrigo Bentancur and Sergio Rochet, complained about the intensity of training sessions.
They disagreed with the tactical approach planned for their upcoming World Cup clash against Spain.
COPE adds that the players felt the squad should adopt a more defensive style and look to attack on the counter.
Bielsa is then said to have gathered the entire squad for a lengthy meeting.
The 70-year-old defended both his methods and tactical philosophy.
The situation represents another chapter in what has reportedly been a difficult relationship between Marcelo Bielsa and certain members of the squad.
Manuel Ugarte, meanwhile, remains fully focused on the World Cup.
The Manchester United midfielder has started both of his country’s matches at the tournament so far.
Those games have ended in draws, including a disappointing 2-2 result against Cape Verde in their most recent outing.
Back at club level, Ugarte’s future remains uncertain.
Michael Carrick, who was appointed as United’s permanent manager following a successful interim spell earlier this year, continued to assess his squad ahead of the new campaign.
Whether Ugarte remains part of Carrick’s long-term plans remains to be seen.
However, developments during the World Cup will undoubtedly continue to attract attention.
