Manchester United midfielder Manuel Ugarte sent a bold message after Uruguay secured an important World Cup qualifying win against Venezuela on Wednesday.
Ugarte has been representing Uruguay during the international break, featuring in both of their World Cup qualifiers this June.
The 24-year-old played the full 90 minutes in the defeat to Paraguay last Friday, where Uruguay fell 2-0 at Estadio Defensores del Chaco.
Looking to bounce back, Uruguay hosted Venezuela at Estadio Centenario, and Bielsa’s side responded well with a 2-0 victory – a crucial result given their recent run of two draws and two losses.
The win leaves Uruguay fourth in the qualifying standings, just a point behind Brazil, who sealed their World Cup spot with a 1-0 win over Paraguay.
Ugarte played a full game against Venezuela, once again demonstrating his importance for Bielsa’s side. Afterwards, he took to Instagram to share the moment with fans.
“Great match, great atmosphere,” he wrote on Instagram Stories. “All together, one step more.”
The midfielder was excellent for his country, despite a tough first campaign under Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.
Following international duty, Ugarte is expected back at Old Trafford ahead of Manchester United’s pre-season under manager Amorim.
Signed from Paris Saint-Germain last year for a fee that could rise to £50.5m, Ugarte made 45 appearances in his debut season, recording two goals and six assists.
The midfielder will now look to build on that as United prepare for the 2025-26 campaign.
