This weekend, Chelsea have a massive task on their hands in the Premier League as they take on league leaders Arsenal. After dropping four points against Leeds and Burnley, they’re in need of picking up the three points here to keep pace in the Champions League race. This won’t be easy as they take on a Gunners side who are top of the table and looking strong to win at least one trophy in this campaign. Ahead of the match, the manager clarified the injury status of star left-back Marc Cuccurella.

Will Marc Cucurella Start This Weekend vs Arsenal

What Liam Rosenior Had to Say

In his pre-match press conference, the former Strasbourg man spoke to the media and offered updated on a number of his injured players. There was good news on captain Reece James but he unfortunately confirmed that “Cucu is not available for Sunday.” This leaves him without one of his star players and a key left-sided defender against one of the league’s in-form attacks.

In addition, Estevao and Jamie Gittens won’t be available to help out the attack. There could be a system change forced on them by the Spaniard’s absence at left back, largely due to the inexperience of Jorrel Hato at the highest level.

What This Means for Chelsea

This leaves Rosenior without a full-back who has looked elite in his position for a few seasons now, his Euros win with Spain provided the launch pad for him to be recognised as one of the world’s finest players in his position. Without him, the Blues will have to get someone else to put the clamps on Bukayo Saka or whoever else plays as the right winger.

One possible solution is a switch to a back five with someone like Pedro Neto at left wing-back to track back and a physical presence like Mamadou Sarr as the left-sided centre back to close off the aerial route for the Gunners.
