Marcos Rojo officially re-signs for club

Marcos Rojo has completed the return to the club with attention now switching to when he could make his latest debut.

The 36-year-old played for Manchester United between 2014 and 2020, making 122 appearances and becoming a consistent figure in respective sides.

Rojo’s efforts during his six-year tenure at the club saw him win the Europa League (2016/17), FA Cup (2016/17), and EFL Cup (2015/16), whilst also finishing second in the Premier League (2017/18).

After leaving Manchester United to join Argentinan side Estudiantes on a loan basis during the 2019/20 season, the defender left United permanently to sign for Boca Juniors.

119 appearances later, Rojo once again was on the move, signing for Racing Club where he has been since August 2025.

With the 36-year-old approaching the end of his playing career, he has now completed a move to Estudiantes (where he started his professional career in the 2008/09 season).

Taking to the official Estudiantes website, the Argentinan side announced the signing whilst the club’s X page said: “Welcome back Marcos.

“Let’s write together new pages of our story.”

Speaking about Rojo’s fitness after the club’s 2-2 draw with Central Cordoba, Fernando Machado said: “Marcos is fine, he trained today, so yes, he can be in the starting lineup.”

It remains unclear when the defender could make his debut for the club, and what the manager’s plans for the 36-year-old are in his time at the side.

With Marcos Rojo back at Estudiantes, though, attention will switch to seeing what impact the experienced defender can make during his third spell at the club.

His availability for selection and familiarity with the side could both prove crucial in the coming weeks as the club aims for success.

At 36, the move also represents a chance to connect with the club and supporters that first welcomed him into professional football.
