Marcus Rashford’s move to Barcelona came together quickly, and he’s already got big plans for his time at the club.

Rashford joined Barca on an initial loan, and United will be glad to have his wages off their books. The deal is expected to become permanent next season.

“I’m a player that likes to score goals, create chances, get assists,” Rashford told Marca. “But for me the most important thing is always the team. And I’m very ambitious and I want to help them win more trophies.”

Marcus Rashford makes Barcelona promise

He has openly stated that this was the move he had been waiting for, even admitting during his unveiling that the loan to Aston Villa in January was more of a last resort.

Rashford performed well at Villa, largely because a fresh environment suited him. And now, being at the club he’s always wanted to play for, there’s an even greater sense of anticipation around what he might deliver.

His Manchester United career started with promise but ended under a cloud, as questions about his professionalism and heavy media attention soured his final months at Old Trafford.

It was Ruben Amorim who eventually took action, citing concerns over Rashford’s commitment in training and deciding to leave him out of the squad.

Now at Barcelona, Rashford is making new promises, though they may be met with scepticism back in Manchester given how things ended there.

The former United forward told fans they could expect maximum effort from him both in matches and on the training ground. “The fans can expect my maximum effort and dedication,” said Rashford. “I will give everything in every match and training session to help the team achieve our goals.”

Marcus Rashford looks ready to impress at Barcelona

Rashford’s quality has never been in question. This is a player who had close to 40 goal involvements in Erik ten Hag’s first season and regularly flashed world-class potential under various managers.

The issue was that, over time, he lost his connection with Man Utd, leaving him stuck in a cycle that was hard to break.

So when Rashford tells Barcelona fans they can expect total commitment, it feels more genuine than the usual promises players make when they arrive at a new club.

With the buy option on the table, there’s every reason to believe Rashford will put together a strong campaign and look to secure his future at Camp Nou.

It wasn’t just one side holding the other back – both played a part. A fresh start was probably best for everyone involved. Even so, it’s understandable if United supporters feel frustrated seeing him give his all elsewhere after years of questions about his effort at Old Trafford.
