Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca insists that it’s ‘not worth talking’ about Mike Maignan or other transfer targets: ‘The goalkeeper situation is quite easy and simple.’

Chelsea boss Maresca was unwilling to discuss the Blues’ transfer links with Milan keeper Maignan.

The Italian tactician faced the media ahead of Chelsea’s Club World Cup debut against LAFC and answered a question about previous negotiations for the Rossoneri goalkeeper.

Maresca opens up about Maignan to Chelsea

“The goalkeeper situation is quite easy and simple. Robert [Sanchez] is the No.1, then Filip [Jorgensen]. [Mike] Penders joined us,” Maresca said.

“We’re gonna see in the next weeks. We’ll have time to analyse and judge him and then take a final decision. For the rest, Maignan, or other players who are not with us, I don’t think it’s worth talking about them.”

Why Maignan didn’t join Chelsea

Chelsea opened talks with Milan and Maignan at the start of June, when the Blues had a 10-day transfer window available to register new players before the beginning of the Club World Cup.

Maignan was very much open to moving to Stamford Bridge, but the Rossoneri rejected Chelsea’s €15m offer for the French keeper who has just one year left in his contract at San Siro.

The 29-year-old is the Milan captain and conceded 59 goals in 53 appearances in 2024-25, keeping 15 clean sheets.
