It is fair to say that Mason Greenwood has not had the smoothest road since leaving Manchester United, with another disruption now taking place.
Greenwood, who left United to join Marseille in 2024, had great success on the field with him scoring 48 goals in 81 games for the Ligue 1 side across two seasons.
Off the field, however, much tension arised with him being openly ignored by Marseille chief Medhi Benatia whilst also losing manager Roberto De Zerbi during his final season with the side.
With the man that followed (Habib Beye), further tension and clashing arised with reports suggesting that the two had fallen out.
A move to Turkish giants Fenerbahce, confirmed during the summer transfer window, had looked to be the dawn of a new era for the Englishman and a move that could help him find stability.
That stability has now been thrown into choas with his manager resigning just minutes after the team’s fixture against Roma in the Champions League.
Speaking in the press conference after the game, Ismail Kartal has called time on his fourth spell with the side after just three months.
“I am resigning from my position while there is still time. I am resigning with the understanding that I will never return,” Ismail Kartal said to the media.
“I have been here for three months. From the beginning of the season until today, the training sessions and camps I conducted with my players… Our president and managers tried to help us in every way.
“Those were wonderful days. As of this evening, I congratulate my players and I am resigning from my position.
“Therefore, I would like to thank all my fans, media members, staff, and fellow players who have supported me until today.
“I made this decision to pave the way for my club. We made this decision together as a team.”
The resignation came after a largely uneventful draw with Roma in the Champions League, where Bryan Cristante for Roma opened the scoring before Archie Brown equalised just after half-time for Fenerbahce from Mason Greenwood’s ball across to the 24-year-old.
With Greenwood losing yet another manager, attention will now switch to see who emerges from the shadows to take over at the helm.
Kartal’s departure is likely to impact the former Manchester United man’s relationship with the club although it remains unclear how the manager’s resignation will impact the relationship just yet.
