Mason Mount arrived at Old Trafford from Chelsea in 2023 as part of Manchester United’s attempt to refresh and modernise their midfield.
The intention was that Mount would bring with him not only Premier League experience, but also Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup titles.
As such, the expectation of becoming a key figure in the new era at the club was a clear one.
However, his first campaign in Manchester was heavily interrupted by injuries, with a series of setbacks preventing the England international from getting into any sort of rhythm.
Unfortunately for Mount, the extended stay in the Carrington treatment room limited his chances to show why United had pushed so hard to sign him.
Now, under Ruben Amorim, that picture has started to change.
Mount has gradually worked his way into the Portuguese coach’s plans, operating as a high-energy midfielder who can press, link play and contribute in the final third.
Finally, this season, the former England international has begun to look more like the player United believed they were buying.
Whilst the attacking midfielder has seen his minutes twindle over the last few weeks, he could be set to be a vital member of the squad over the winter as Bryan Mbeumo heads to the Africa Cup of Nations.
Now, Mount has made headlines for something away from the pitch.
The Bolton News has reported that the midfielder has reached out to the family of Lewis Rimmer, a big Manchester United supporter from Bolton who remains critically ill after being struck by a car.
Mason Mount is said to have sent a personalised video message to Rimmer’s wife, Sarah, and their two daughters, Amelia and Maddison.
The United star shared his condolences and expressed how sorry he was to hear what had happened, while passing on that everyone at Manchester United is thinking of them and sending their love.
Close friend Andy Tonge described the gesture as “lovely” for a family that has been left dealing with life-changing injuries and an induced coma in the weeks since the incident.
A fundraiser set up by friends has already passed £100,000 in donations, reflecting how strongly the story has resonated with the local community and beyond.
The money is expected to help support the family and adapt their home when the time comes, easing at least some of the financial pressure as they focus on Rimmer’s recovery.
For Manchester United, moments like this highlight the character in the dressing room as much as any performance on the pitch.
Mount’s message, coming soon after Matheus Cunha agreed to turn on the Christmas lights in Altrincham, underlines how this squad is engaging with supporters and the local area.
As such, acts like this from the United squad are helping to restore the “family club” feel that many associate with the best eras at Old Trafford.
