Matheus Cunha has opened up about what matters most to him after completing his first pre-season training session under Ruben Amorim at Manchester United.
Cunha arrived at Old Trafford this summer after United moved quickly to secure his signing from Wolves, making him the club’s headline addition of the window so far.

The Red Devils triggered Cunha’s £62.5m release clause following an impressive 2025-26 season, with the forward signing a long-term deal to join Amorim’s squad.
Amorim has been keen on Cunha for some time, valuing the Brazilian’s ability to play across multiple attacking roles and contribute in various ways going forward.
The 26-year-old signed a five-year contract with United and spent part of the summer away from club duties while representing Brazil on international duty.
He was among the first group of players to report back to Carrington for pre-season training under Amorim, marking the start of his preparations with his new team.
Matheus Cunha has taken over the No.10 shirt at Manchester United for the 2025/26 season, filling the role that had previously belonged to Marcus Rashford.
The new signing caught attention during his time at Wolves, where he tallied up 17 goals and six assists over 36 games in all competitions last season.
Cunha was involved in training on Tuesday at Carrington, giving fans their first proper look at him working under Ruben Amorim.
Talking to the club’s official website, Cunha spoke about what it means to wear the No.10 shirt and how he sees his responsibilities in attack.
“This is the most important, this is the most important [an impact in the attack],” he said.
“I don’t know, with every single number, it will be a pleasure to use the shirt. But, yeah, with this one it’s something different.
“Then, of course, the responsibility is coming, and I hope I can do everything like goals, assists and help the team.
“So this is kind of a very important point for my position.”
Matheus Cunha’s Role Under Ruben Amorim in Man Utd’s 2025-26 Premier League Season at Old Trafford Cannot Be Underestimated
Matheus Cunha is expected to play as the left-sided No 10 in Amorim’s setup, a position he knows well from his time at Wolves.
The United manager saw firsthand last season how much his squad struggled to finish chances, often lacking a cutting edge in the final third.
United’s attack was inconsistent throughout their difficult 2024-25 campaign, and strengthening that area has become a priority for Amorim this summer.
Cunha appears well-suited to Amorim’s style of play, and there will be plenty of expectation on the Brazilian to make an impact next season.
