Former Celtic striker Franck McAvennie has said that he has heard a rumour that the club are interested in re-signing Kris Ajer. The Norwegian Internationalist left Glasgow for the Premier League side in 2021 but McAvennie is touting an unlikely return.

Speaking to Football Insider, McAvennie said that he has heard a rumour regarding a sensational return involving Ajer.

“Even Ajer, they’re talking about him coming back from Brentford.

“He’s a big centre-half and he’ll be a better player just by the fact he’s playing in England.

“They’ll be getting a better player than the one they let go. He’s a big lump of a boy.

“When you go down there, the training and everything is different. I don’t know what Brendan is like but obviously he’s one of the top coaches.

“I wouldn’t mind him back, we need players to go into Europe.”

Brentford have utilised Ajer at the heart of their defence, making 69 appearances in three seasons. The 26-year-old has a contract until the summer of 2028, meaning he would likely cost in excess of the fee Celtic received for him.

Ajer made 176 appearances for Celtic, scoring 7 goals and assisting 7 times. A move is extremely unlikely given the player was keen to make the move to the Premier League.
