The Mexican National Team will start a new era as legendary defender Rafael Márquez has become their new head coach ahead of the 2030 World Cup.

Mexico impressed many as one of the hosts of the 2026 World Cup. Mexico played five matches, where they topped Group A with a perfect record of three wins from three games.

Mexico went on to beat Ecuador 2-0 in the Round of 32, but lost 2-3 to England in the Round of 16 in a memorable match at the Estadio Azteca.

Tonight, Mexico will face a heavily rotated Colombia side, who also impressed in the 2026 World Cup before being knocked out in the Round of 16.

Colombia will be without James Rodriguez, who retired from the national team, and without Luis Diaz, who is in Munich, Germany, during the international break.

Mexico and Colombia last played each other last year on October 11, 2025, at the AT&T Stadium in a friendly match. Colombia won the match 4-0 with goals from Jhon Lucumí, Luis Díaz, Jefferson Lerma, and Johan Carbonero.
