For once, Manchester United have some real breathing room in their schedule, not because they’ve got cup games or European nights on the horizon, but simply because there’s nothing on the calendar until they face Everton on February 23.

Thirteen days with no matches.

The club had talked about flying out for a mid-season friendly in the Middle East, but those plans got tossed.

So, interim boss Michael Carrick is keeping things simple.

No flashy trips, no chasing extra cash with exhibition games in the Gulf.

Instead, United are staying put in Manchester, working at Carrington, and letting the squad unwind after a busy run of fixtures.

It’s a pretty stark contrast to what they were thinking earlier in the season, when a getaway to Saudi Arabia or somewhere else seemed like a quick fix for the financial hit of missing out on European football.

For Michael Carrick, this break isn’t a headache.

If anything, it’s a chance to reset after what’s been a steady start for him at Old Trafford.

Simon Stone reported, via X, that Carrick has confirmed his squad will stay in Manchester for the full 13 days.

Since he took over from Ruben Amorim, he’s pushed for gradual improvement, not big statements.

So, instead of jetting off for sun and sand, United will mix light sessions with tactical drills and recovery work at Carrington.

That means key players can heal up and shake off the little injuries from recent games.

Under Michael Carrick, United are unbeaten in five league games.

Guys like Benjamin Sesko, who’s been chipping in with late goals, plus those on the mend from knocks, will definitely appreciate the chance to recover without the hassle of a long flight.

Really, it’s less about stepping back and more about looking inward.
