Michael Carrick is having an incredible time in his role as Manchester United’s caretaker manager, taking them from strength to strength.
The former United midfielder was brought in to steady the ship after the sacking of Ruben Amorim, but he’s now on a seven-game undefeated streak.
With wins over Manchester City, Arsenal, Fulham, Tottenham Hotspur, Everton and Crystal Palace, the only game they haven’t won under Carrick was their draw with West Ham United.
As such, The Red Devils are firmly fighting for a Champions League place, with the accompanying £100 million in funds being vital for their current struggles.
For now, Carrick has only been appointed until the end of the season, with the club’s initial plans to hire a world-class manager in the summer.
However, Samuel Luckhurst has now reported on X that Carrick isn’t only planning until the end of the season.
United’s caretaker manager has been reported to have said “it’s my responsibility, however long I’m here, to make decisions that are the best for the football club in the long term.”
Whilst this doesn’t explictily say he’s getting his plans in place for managing the club next season, it is a clear sign that he’s not only looking until the end of the season.
Luckhurst also adds that Carrick has accepted that United may have to sign a left-winger in the summer as well as recruiting to their priority area of midfield.
That said, the 44-year-old will currently be focusing firmly on United’s trip to Newcastle United tomorrow night, hoping to extend their winning run even further.
However, Michael Carrick does continue his successful run with The Red Devils, it’s hard to imagine why he wouldn’t be handed the permanent manager job ahead of next season.
Carrick says he’s practically planning for beyond this season at United: ‘it’s my responsibility, however long I’m here, to make decisions that are the best for the football club in the long term.’
