Manchester United’s recent run of results has been one of the most talked-about stories in the Premier League this season.
Back-to-back wins over Manchester City at Old Trafford and Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium have not only lifted the Red Devils into the top four but also shifted the mood around Michael Carrick’s interim spell in charge.
That upturn in form has come alongside renewed discussion about United’s transfer plans as the January window enters its final days.
According to Simon Stone from BBC Sport, Carrick has not ruled out a possibility of late movement before the deadline.
United were linked with several potential recruits earlier in the month, particularly in central midfield as the club explored ways to add experience and balance.
Former Wolverhampton Wanderers star Ruben Neves was among the names mentioned but no deal progressed as he is reportedly close to signing a new, three year contract with Al-Hilal.
There has also been continued speculation around Joshua Zirkzee, with Juventus considering whether to make a move for the former Bologna forward.
Zirkzee has since returned to full training after a minor injury and is available for selection this weekend.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s Premier League meeting with Fulham, Carrick remained deliberately cautious when asked about transfer business but left the door open to developments.
“Never say never,” Carrick said.
“A lot can happen and situations can be thrown up. Sometimes it is in our control, sometimes not. I am pretty calm. We have shown what we are capable of as a team.”
The interim boss also confirmed that Patrick Dorgu will be side-lined for “a number of weeks” due to injury, a situation that has fuelled suggestions United could look for short-term cover.
On Zirkzee’s fitness, Carrick added: “Josh has just been trying to work to get fit.
It was great to have him training with the group and I am just looking forward to working with him.”
Carrick acknowledged that discussions over Bruno Fernandes’ long-term future are “on the agenda a little bit,” though he stressed that any decisions would be addressed later in the season.
For now, the focus remains on sustaining momentum.
United know that impressive wins over Manchester City and Arsenal will count for little unless they are backed up with consistency against the rest of the league.
But as Simon Stone reports, with confidence growing on the pitch and the transfer window still open, Carrick has made it clear that United’s January business may not yet be finished.
