Manchester United are thriving since the departure of Ruben Amorim just over a month ago, with former Red Devil Michael Carrick stepping up as caretaker manager.
Under Amorim, United failed to get into Europe, inheriting a poor season start from Erik ten Hag, however also were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by League Two side Grimsby Town.
The inconsistent results and stubbornness to stick to his rules and his system eventually was the Portuguese manager’s downfall, combined with his heated interviews where he rarely pulled his punches.
However, under Carrick it’s a very different outlook.
The former United midfiedler has stepped in to steady the ship, leading the side to beat bitter rivals Manchester City after only three days with the squad.
This result started a run of four consecutive wins, beating league leaders Arsenal as well as Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur, with their latest match seeing Benjamin Sesko save a draw against West Ham United.
However, with the lack of domestic or European competitions, United have a reduced match schedule this season, seeing the club have a two-week mid-season break until they face Everton on 23rd February 2026.
Now, with the break upon the United squad, The Mirror has reported that Michael Carrick has abolished one of Ruben Amorim’s rules preventing the players from having time off over the breaks.
During his time at Old Trafford, Marcus Rashford and Casemiro used a break to fly to America and watch a NBA game despite United being in a poor run of results.
After that, no players were allowed to use the breaks for leisure trips, a rule which has now come to an end.
Already during this mini-off-period, Bruno Fernandes has returned to Portugal to see his friend play as Pacos de Ferreira took on Torreense, whilst Senne Lammens visited his former club Royal Antwerp.
It’s understood that the changes under Carrick has seen the morale at the club lift drastically, with the results being clear for all to see on the pitch.
