Petar Sucic and Nicolo Barella could become the new cornerstones of Inter Milan’s midfield now that Hakan Calhanoglu could be on his way out.

According to Corriere dello Sport via FCInterNews, Cristian Chivu has already labeled the diminutive Italian as ‘indispensable.’

Hakan Calhanoglu looks close to departing San Siro after generating interest from Fenerbahce and Galatasaray.

Indeed, the 31-year-old is the subject of a transfer tug-of-war between the eternal Istanbul rivals.

On the other hand, Inter are preparing for life after the skilled midfielder.

Barella has been among Inter’s most influential figures for years. And his significance can only grow with Calhanoglu out of the way.

Therefore, Cristian Chivu will heavily rely on the former Cagliari star next season.
