Mikel Arteta’s response to Arsenal being labelled “bottlers” has gone viral after the Gunners surrendered a two-goal lead in their 2-2 draw against Wolves.

Arsenal appeared in control after racing into a 2-0 advantage, only for Wolves to claw their way back and snatch a point, intensifying scrutiny over the club’s mentality.

The result reignited criticism that has followed the north London side during previous title runs.

Mikel Arteta responds to Arsenal bottlers label after Wolves draw

Speaking after the 2-2 draw, in comments shared by Fabrizio Romano, Arteta said, “That’s individual opinion, perspective, and you have to respect that.

“You lose two points against Wolves in the manner that the game played out. You have to take it on the chin. That’s it.”

Arsenal had looked comfortable before conceding momentum in the second half, allowing Wolves back into the contest. The dropped points have intensified debate around whether Arteta’s side possess the resilience required in a tight title race.

The term “bottlers” has resurfaced in online discourse, a label previously attached to Arsenal during late-season stumbles. Arteta’s reaction, however, avoided confrontation and instead framed the criticism as part of elite competition.

Arteta also made clear that the word does not align with his thinking, saying, “It is not part of my vocabulary, and I don’t see it like this because I don’t think anybody wants to do that as an intention, but I wouldn’t choose that word. That’s me.”

The Arsenal manager’s stance reflects his consistent refusal to accept narratives that question intent or professionalism. From his perspective, losing control of a match is a technical and tactical failure rather than a psychological collapse.

With the Premier League table finely balanced, Arsenal cannot afford further slips. Whether critics persist with the label may depend entirely on how Arteta’s team responds in the coming weeks.
