Milan Add More Options to Their Defensive Shortlist

Milan are doing their due diligence to identify the right defender to sign in January and have begun examining also Galatasaray’s center-back Victor Nelsson and Sint-Truiden’s youngster Matte Smets. Clement Lenglet and Matteo Gabbia are considered the frontrunners to plug their holes at the moment.

Per Sky, the Rossoneri inquired about the Dane, but his side would have to sign off on letting him go on loan. The Turkish club acquired him for €7M from Copenhagen in August 2021. He has accumulated 100 appearances since and has been a regular this season, already featuring on 20 occasions. His contract lasts until 2026.

Besides Nelsson, the latest name to fall on the Milan radar is Smets, who’s also wanted by Atalanta, Tuttomercatoweb relays. The two Serie A sides have often sent scouts to watch him. He has played every minute in every game so far.

His price tag is around €10/12M. It might be an issue for the Rossoneri, which might prefer spending for a striker, with Serhou Guirassy in pole position over other options. Instead, La Dea could indeed invest in him, as their other targets are much more expensive.

According to Alfredo Pedullà, Lenglet wants to move to Serie A and is putting pressure on Aston Villa to depart.

Gabbia must have given them the cold shoulders if they are looking elsewhere, or perhaps they’ll acquire two new pieces. One of them would have to be an Italian to fit the lists.
