Milan have announced a surprising pre-season friendly against newly-promoted Premier League side Leeds United in Dublin.
The Rossoneri confirmed that the event will be played at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on Saturday August 9 at 15.00 UK time.
Leeds United have Italy international Wilfried Gnonto in the squad, who spent time in the youth academy of Milan’s city rivals Inter.
It will be the first time the Rossoneri have played in the Republic of Ireland for five years, since a Europa League qualifier against Shamrock Rovers in 2020.
As for Leeds, they famously faced off with the Italians in the 1973 Cup Winners’ Cup Final.
The pre-season schedule was reshuffled following news that the Diavolo failed to qualify for any European football competition this term.
They also slipped down to eighth place in Serie A, meaning they must start the Coppa Italia with the second round, which should be around August 15.
There are also fixtures planned in Singapore, Hong Kong and Western Australia from July 20 to August 1.
