After saying their goodbyes to Stefano Pioli this weekend, AC Milan will now aim to appoint their next manager as soon as possible, and a report has suggested that a deal could be done shortly.

This weekend’s game was emotional, a chance to say thank you and farewell to Simon Kjaer, Olivier Giroud and Pioli, celebrating their moments in the Rossoneri. However, Milan cannot wait, especially with the summer mercato opening shortly.

Although they have held an extensive evaluation process of their options, it seems that one has emerged ahead of the others – Paulo Fonseca. The Portuguese manager led Lille to a fourth-place finish in Ligue 1, and his squad has been built on young foundations.

This is just one of several reasons why the club have opted for him, and now they are working to finalise the deal, as per Calciomercato.com reports. The only thing between the club and the manager is the structure of the contract.

A three-year deal will be offered, but whether this is offered directly, or by two years with an option of a third remains unseen. His contract will be worth around €3 million per season, and the signs firmly point in the way of Fonseca leading the club into the post-Pioli era.
