Multiple sources claim Milan have enquired about Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji, who is not part of Pep Guardiola’s plans.

Milan have shown interest in Switzerland international Akanji, enquiring about the player’s availability.

Milan open preliminary talks for Akanji

Fabrizio Romano and Calciomercato.com report that Milan sounded out the defender’s availability, but no official offer has been submitted yet.

Romano reports that the experienced Manchester City centre-back is one of the three defenders on Milan’s shortlist.

Manchester City have already agreed to send Akanji to Galatasaray for circa €17.5m (£15m), but the 30-year-old has not accepted a move to the Turkish club.

Milan’s final moves in 2025 summer transfer window

Akanji was an unused substitute in Manchester City’s opening Premier League game against Wolverhampton and wasn’t even on the bench in the following outing against Tottenham.

His contract at the Etihad Stadium runs out in June 2027.

Milan are expected to make a few more signings before the end of the summer transfer window, having targeted a central midfielder and a centre-forward as well.
