Milan supporters have been banned from attending Sunday’s Serie A match against Roma, but their ultras insisted they’d have boycotted it anyway. ‘We leave you alone with your shame.’

It kicks off at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome on Sunday at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT, 20.45 CET).

In theory, it should’ve been an easy situation for the Rossoneri fans, having been in attendance for last night’s Coppa Italia Final against Bologna.

Several instances of vandalism in and around the stadium prompted the local authorities to ban ticket sales to anyone who lives outside of the Lazio region.

Milan fans send strong message to team

However, the Milan Curva Sud ultras group had already released a message on its social media channels warning they would boycott the match in protest at their Coppa Italia Final defeat to Bologna.

“After last night’s latest undignified performance, only the most recent example in a season created by the incompetence of the directors and a squad without a crumb of pride, we will on Sunday leave you alone with your shame!

“This decision is made regardless of any crazy travel bans, of which there has been talk for days.”

Ultras have been protesting against the club and squad for several months, sometimes sitting in silence or leaving the Curva empty for the first 15 minutes, in other occasions hurling constant insults at the club owners.

The banner that has been appearing regularly in the stands states: ‘Only for the shirt.’
