Milan coach Stefano Pioli has become the leading candidate to take over at Napoli and has reportedly agreed a deal in principle with Aurelio De Laurentiis.

The Rossoneri coach will almost certainly be shown the door at the end of this season, ending a five-year spell in the Lombardy capital that saw many highs and lows, including their Scudetto success in the 2021-22 campaign and a run to the Champions League semi-finals last term.

Milan have been searching for a replacement for Pioli for a little while now, casting a wide net as they consider various candidates. In the meantime, Napoli are also on the hunt for a new head coach, having gotten cold feet over Antonio Conte.

Pioli and Napoli

As reported by Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com, Pioli has been in close contact with De Laurentiis for the last few weeks and has become the leading candidate to take over at Napoli in the summer, once his exit from Milan is confirmed.

Although pen hasn’t been put to paper just yet, the two parties have agreed a three-year deal in principle ahead of the summer, leaving just the final details to resolve.
