Milan’s Pobega ruled out for four months after surgery 

Milan midfielder Tommaso Pobega is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after undergoing surgery on his injured quad on Thursday, a recovery period that could last up to four months according to initial assessments. 

The 24-year-old was forced off just 24 minutes into Milan’s recent 3-0 victory over Monza in Serie A on Sunday, being replaced by teenager Jan-Carlo Simic. 

It had been reported after the final result that Pobega had suffered an injury to the rectus femoris muscle in his quadricep and that he could be at risk of going under the knife. 

A statement released by the Rossoneri on Thursday afternoon confirmed that Pobega has since had a successful operation on his leg, carried out in Finland by surgeon Lasse Lempainen in the presence of the club’s doctors. 

It is expected that Pobega will require a period of four months before he is able to return to competitive action, which would likely be at the end of April, towards the end of the 2023-24 Serie A season.
