Just days before Minnesota United are set to kick off the 2025 season, head coach Eric Ramsay has been labeled as one of the favorites to take over the vacant managerial position at Swansea City.
Swansea City are a Welsh club playing the second division of English soccer pyramid. The team recently parted ways with manager Luke Williams after losing eight of 10 games across all competitions. The Swans currently sit in 17th place, out of 24, in the English Championship and are now looking for their fourth manager in the past two years.
Ramsay, 33, took over as the Loons head coach in February 2024, making his debut in a 2-0 win over LAFC in March 2024. Under Ramsay, the Loons went 14-8-14 across all competitions last year, finishing sixth in the Western Conference and making it to the Western Conference semifinals.
A Welsh native, Ramsay has been listed as a 2-1 favorite by British bookmakers SkyBet and BetVictor to be named the next Swansea manager. Outside of being from the same country, Ramsay has other connections to Swansea. He got his coaching career started with the club, coaching Swansea's U-18 and U-21 teams over period of three-and-a-half years.
The Star Tribune's Minnesota United beat reporter Jon Marthaler posted on his BlueSky Wednesday morning that it would "be a huge shock to me if - given everything he said about MNUFC - he decided to abruptly leave and take over a team that's in the bottom third of the Championship and about to hire its fourth manager in two years."
Minnesota United are set to begin the season Saturday in Los Angeles against LAFC. The Loons enter the season as a dark horse favorite to compete at the top end of the Western Conference. Kickoff for Saturday's season opener is set for 3:30 p.m. CT.
