MLS is Back match postponed following Nashville SC coronavirus outbreak

Roughly 24 hours after FC Dallas were pulled from the MLS is Back tournament scheduled to start July 8, return-to-play formats for the top-flight and the NBA that involve teams quarantining and living at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando suffered yet another blow.

On Tuesday, MLS confirmed that Wednesday's Nashville SC versus Chicago Fire match is postponed due to five Nashville players testing positive for the virus at the bubble site.

The MLS statement added that two players learned of their positive results over the July 4 weekend. Three others received positive results on Monday evening. Four players require additional testing due to inconclusive results.

MLS didn't announce a makeup date for the game.

The league unceremoniously bounced Dallas from the tournament meant to resume the 2020 season halted in March after two matchdays because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic on Monday after a virus outbreak directly affected over a dozen members of the club.

Fixtures are scheduled from July 8 through Aug. 11, but, like many aspects of life this summer, the league's calendar is subject to change.

Along with FC Dallas, LAFC star forward and reigning MLS MVP Carlos Vela also isn't participating because of the uncontrolled virus outbreak. Worrisome coronavirus cases throughout Florida could lead to both MLS and the NBA either rethinking or cancelling models to return to action this month.
