MLV Minnesota makes Stephanie Samedy franchise's first signing

Major League Volleyball's expansion Minnesota franchise announced its first signing on Tuesday, inking a contract with Stephanie Samedy which will begin in 2027 when the team officially joins the league.

Samedy, 27, was a five-time All-American and two-time Big Ten Player of the Year at Minnesota. She finished her career as just the second player in Big Ten history to amass 2,000 kills and 1,500 digs.

"I'm thrilled to be able to continue my professional career in Minnesota, a place that feels like home to me," Samedy said in a statement. "I've been fortunate to develop and play in many different environments, and each one has helped shape who I am both on and off the court. I'm excited to bring that experience to MLV Minnesota."

She spent the last two years with Hisamitsu Springs of the SV League in Japan, finishing as the league's third-leading scorer last season.

"Steph has earned a reputation as one of the best players in the world," MLV Minnesota general manager and head coach Pedro Mendes said in the press release. "In addition to being outstanding on the court, she will be a great role model for young women and girls in our community. This was a rare opportunity to sign a high-caliber player with incredible integrity."

MLV Minnesota will begin play in January 2027. Teams in Northern California and Washington, D.C. will also be added to the league for the 2027 season, joining eight existing teams in the Atlanta Vibe, Columbus Fury, Dallas Pulse, Grand Rapids Rise, Indy Ignite, Omaha Supernovas, Orlando Valkyries and San Diego Mojo.
