‘Monster’ Chelsea Defender Could Be Sold This Summer

This summer could be one of significant change for Chelsea with both Aaron Anselmino and Mamadou Sarr returning from loans and providing additional competition to the already numerous centre back options in the squad. According to Nizaar Kinsella, this puts some of the current defenders at a cross roads as they have two years left on their deals, meaning they either need to renew and accept new terms or face the proposition of being put on the shop window.

Two Chelsea Defenders Facing Summer of Uncertainty

Tosin Adarabioyo

One such name is former Fulham man Tosin Adarabioyo. Described as a “monster” for his aerial ability, he is the oldest regular player in the squad and adds some veteran know-how to the dressing room. His height has proven to be a useful way to combat physical attackers, as he remains comfortable on the ball  when building up from the back.

Despite his qualities, he has been quite prone to errors in this campaign and found himself frozen out entirely towards the end of Enzo Maresca’s tenure as manager. An upgrade at his position could see him fall further down the order before the new season.

Trevoh Chalobah

An academy graduate and another experienced name who has hundreds of senior footballing appearances to call on. Chalobah has been a regular starter for the past year since being recalled from a loan at Crystal Palace. He is similarly prone to the occasional lapse in defence that has left some fans wondering if he is of the quality to compete for major honours.

Losing both players would be a hit to Liam Rosenior’s depth pretty quickly. While the talent of Sarr and Anselmino is undeniable, neither have played significant minutes in the Premier League like Chalobah and Tosin have, this could lead to a drop in quality early in the 2026/27 term as the new defenders adjust to life in such a competitive league.
