Morata Confirms Summer Talks with Milan, Roma and Inter

Alvaro Morata had a busy summer as several Serie A teams inquired about him, but he ended up staying put at Atletico Madrid, signing a new contract. He dished on it to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“It was a particular situation, as my deal was set to expire. I renewed it significantly varying its economic terms for Financial Fair Play-related reasons, which also affected the conditions for my departure. Milan reached out to me, and so did a few coaches.”

“I’ve a good relationship with everybody. Massimiliano Allegri and José Mourinho managed me in the past. I met Simone Inzaghi a few years ago. He’s an incredible gaffer and a spectacular person. He exudes positive energy.”

Morata singled out Roma among his suitors.

“I liked the idea of joining them to play with Paulo Dybala and in a club and city filled with passion where they experience football like in South America.”

Morata explained why he didn’t move in the end.

“There were some contractual difficulties with the Serie A suitors. However, it was a chat with Diego Simeone that made the difference. It wasn’t true that we didn’t get along. We improved our relationship last summer because we got to know each other better. It has helped us both. I’ve never played and scored this much with Atletico Madrid.”

Morata expects a quieter window in a few months.

“You never know with me, but I feel great here, and the same goes for my family.”
