Manchester United are yet to sanction any outgoings in the summer window thus far, which may cause complications when they look to bolster Ruben Amorim’s ranks in the coming weeks.
Heading into the transfer period, it was already claimed that the Red Devils had the funds available to facilitate two major signings.
The first would end up being Matheus Cunha, for whom they activated his £62.5 million release clause by paying an upfront fee before pledging to pay the rest in instalments over two years.
For the last month, United have been locked in negotiations to try and prise Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, having failed with their two opening offers, the most recent of which was £55m plus £7m in add-ons.
In regards to the players that could be offloaded to replenish the transfer kitty, all of Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford have been put up for sale, although none has been the subject of an incoming bid for INEOS to mull over.
Somewhat surprisingly, United are considering cutting ties with Rasmus Hojlund prematurely in the aftermath of a truly lacklustre campaign from the forward; he scored six fewer Premier League goals (four) than he managed in his maiden season (10), prompting concerns that he is simply not cut out for England’s top flight.
Unlike his counterpart Joshua Zirkzee, Hojlund also hasn’t really shown enough on the ball/in build-up play that’s really warranted such faith, hence INEOS contemplating a departure just two years after his £72m switch from Atalanta.
Reputable United journalist Laurie Whitwell revealed on Wednesday evening on the Talk of the Devils podcast that the 22-year-old leaving Old Trafford this summer was ‘more likely than not’.
Inter Milan have registered concrete interest in Hojlund , while Ollie Watkins has been identified as a suitable and relatively risk-free replacement, given his prolific goalscoring record.
