The Africa Cup of Nations is nearing its conclusion, and excitement across the continent has reached fever pitch.
With Morocco now booked into the final, fans and analysts alike have been poring over every detail of their semi-final performance.
Key players have emerged as defining figures in this campaign, with performances against heavyweights like Nigeria crucial in shaping the narrative.
Media outlets in Morocco and beyond have been quick to assess contributions, breaking down defensive work, attacking intent, and composure under pressure.
One player who drew significant attention from Moroccan media during the semifinal was Noussair Mazraoui.
Morocco advanced to the Africa Cup of Nations final after defeating Nigeria 4–2 on penalties following a 0–0 draw after extra time in their semifinal on Wednesday at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.
While goalkeeper Yassine Bounou played a decisive role in the shootout, saving Nigeria’s opening attempt, and captain Achraf Hakimi converted the winning penalty to seal Morocco’s place in Sunday’s final against Senegal, Mazraoui’s performance did not go unnoticed.
Morocco dominated much of the match in regulation time, pressing high and controlling possession.
Brahim Diaz and Hakimi were central to the hosts’ attacking play, with several chances created down the right flank, and early opportunities fell to Ismael Saibari and Diaz, though Nigeria goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali kept his side level.
Hespress highlighted Mazraoui’s efforts, writing: “Noussair Mazraoui applied lots of pressure and came close to scoring.”
The right-back combined defensive solidity with constant forward runs, providing width and supporting Morocco’s attacking play while maintaining composure at the back.
His ability to link with Diaz and Hakimi on the right flank allowed Morocco to stretch Nigeria’s defence and create multiple threatening situations.
Mazraoui’s pressing disrupted Nigeria’s build-up, contributing to the clean sheet and maintaining Moroccan control in the midfield and wide areas.
Mazraoui is now Manchester United’s sole representative at AFCON following the exits of Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo.
As Morocco prepare for their showdown with Senegal, Noussair Mazraoui is expected to start.
