London rivals Chelsea and Arsenal have been going blow-for-blow on the transfer market several times this summer transfer window, including one instance when the Blues directly sold a player to the Gunners for around 50 million pounds in wantaway right winger Noni Madueke.
Arsenal have made significant moves this summer, including finally signing a world-class striker in Viktor Gyokeres, but, once again, Chelsea have been the most active team in the Premier League in a transfer window.
The latest dream target on the Chelsea wishlist is RB Leipzig star attacking midfielder Xavi Simons, who has been one of the best players in the Bundesliga over the last couple of seasons since joining the Red Bull-owned German powerhouse.
Really, though, Simons was already one of the best young midfielders in European football even before that, as he was stellar for PSV both in the league and at the Europa League level.
Now, Simons is ready to move from Leipzig for a bigger club, and Chelsea, alongside Arsenal and Tottenham, have been in hot pursuit of the talented 22-year-old.
According to a new report from The Daily Telegraph journalist Matt Law, Xavi Simons is open to moving to Chelsea, and the Blues are actually seen as the “most attractive” landing spot for the young center midfielder this summer above the competition in the Premier League.
As time continue to go on and more reporters weigh in, Simons increasingly seems inclined to move to Chelsea. They already have a great midfield with players like Andrey Santos and Dario Essugo set to join the likes of Romeo Lavia, Enzo Fernandes, and Moises Caicedo.
Simons, though, would be a No. 10 alongside one of the best 10’s in the world in Cole Palmer, who stood head and shoulders above the rest this summer in leading Chelsea to a mildly unexpected conquest of the Club World Cup.
The reigning Conference League champions and newly returning Champions League competitors, Chelsea are a club back on the rise, with Todd Boehly getting the last laugh with his troop of young superstars.
Simons looks poised to be next in line. Meanwhile, Arsenal had a busy transfer window of their own in the middle of the park by bringing in Martin Zubimendi as a No. 6 to replace the disgraced Thomas Partey, but it looks like Simons won’t be the new No. 10 to pair with Arsenal’s own superstar playmaker, Martin Odegaard.
But Arsenal do have another option in Londoner Eberechi Eze, who is expected to leave Crystal Palace this summer. Tottenham chopped him off the list, so it looks like Simons to Chelsea nad potentially Eze to Arsenal are the most likely dominos to fall in the Premier League playmaker battle.
