Lautaro Martinez produced the perfect response to Harry Kane scoring in yesterday’s 2-2 draw between Inter Milan and Bayern Munich.
The Argentine received plenty of praise for the timing of his goal in the player ratings for the Champions League quarterfinal second leg, as TuttoMercatoWeb highlight.
Inter Milan managed to keep Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane quiet for more than 135 minutes of football.
The Englishman is one of the most prolific strikers in European football. However, he hadn’t scored across three halves and over two hours of football against Inter.
But Kane finally managed to find the back of the net against the Nerazzurri early in the first half of yesterday’s quarterfinal first leg.
The 31-year-old former Tottenham Hotspur striker found himself, for once, escaping from the tight marking of Francesco Acerbi.
And when the ball fell to him, Kane coolly slotted past Yann Sommer’s despairing dive.
Kane’s goal was a huge momentum shift in favour of Bayern.
The Bavarians suddenly had the feeling that their biggest name players could make the difference, after Inter had so efficiently restricted them for so long.
So Inter therefore needed a response.
And it was the Nerazzurri’s biggest name who went tit for tat with Kane.
Inter captain Lautaro Martinez did not wait long to get on the scoresheet himself.
The Argentine’s toe-poke from a corner was not nearly as impressive as his spectacular trivela finish in the first leg.
However, it mattered little. Martinez once again established Inter’s advantage, reacting quickest and showing that just as much as Kane, he could come up big when the chance fell to him.
